World Leather Day April 26th 2024

By Leather Naturally, we celebrate World Leather Day in making the awareness of the importance to Repair, Repurpose and Reuse leather goods. Repairing leather goods is economically wise and environmentally beneficial. Extending the life of leather products reduces the demand for new materials, conserves resources, and diminishes environmental impact. It supports sustainable consumption by promoting durability and reducing waste.

Repairing leather is a skilled practice that extends the life of leather goods such as shoes, bags, and furniture, through techniques like stitching, patching, and conditioning. This practice not only restores and maintains the aesthetic and functional quality of leather items but also offers significant environmental benefits. By repairing leather, we reduce waste, minimize the demand for new resources, and promote a culture of sustainability. Emphasizing repair helps conserve craftsmanship traditions and encourages a more sustainable, less disposable approach to consumption.

We are delighted to promote the benefits of repairing, reusing, and repurposing leather goods together with Leather Naturally and their global members.

During a recent visit to Sky’s The Limit Car Care, we had the pleasure of discussing the Colourlock Top Life Coating, which provides exceptional surface protection for vehicle leather surfaces. Available in both Top Life and Top Life Pro versions, these coatings can be acquired through Sky’s The Limit Car Care. The experience was highly informative and enjoyable, with the team, including Lars and Corey, delivering an excellent description of the unique features of Top Life, highlighting its effectiveness in safeguarding leather surfaces.

    Leather Aviator Cap

Handmade Leather Aviator Cap made with Horween’s Dublin leather and DieselPunkRO leather pattern.

This was such a fun build as I chose to use the belly section of leather as it maintains a nice softness. The flesh side (inside) is sealed and burnished to a nice touch that adds comfort when wearing. The ear muffs have been doubled up for a more durable structure, considering the malleableness of the 4-5oz. leather and it’s all lovingly hand-cut & hand-stitched with premium thread.

I was inspired to build an aviator cap when in TN at the worlds largest knife shop. Inside the knife shop they have a vintage collection of old war items including a few leather made aviator caps.

Below is some links that helped me with this build:

    Leather Pattern – DieselPunkRO

Leather Used – The Tannery Row Horween Dublin

  • Puerto Rico Colourlock Training at UM Distributors, Inc

Puerto Rico Colourlock Training at UM Distributors, Inc

We recently finished up the very first Colourlock Training in Puerto Rico and it was amazing thanks to UM Distributors, Inc. We had a really great group, everyone was very eager to learn Colourlock’s how to repair & care for leather methods. With Puerto Rico being in a very subtropical location, automotive leathers can easily become damaged due to high heat/UV and fast changing climates. Within the Colourlock Training we explain leather, what it is, how it’s made, where it’s used, the different types of leathers and so much more. Not only the variations of leathers but also plastics and vinyls. After a Colourlock Training, all students have a clear understanding of how leather becomes damaged, how to address the damages and to incorporate the services within their business.

The hospitality and professionalism from UM Distributors was incredible as Katherine and family made the entire week so enjoyable for us. This was the first Colourlock Leather Care & Repair Training in Puerto Rico but definitely not the last.

Thank you for checking out this small fraction of our training event with UM Distributors Inc. in Puerto Rico. We’re looking forward to a return visit in the near future. To sum it up, the trip was amazing! We met some really spectacular people, had a lot of fun, soaked in some of San Juan’s beauty and enjoyed great meals together. Everyone who attended the Colourlock Training was the ideal student, very eager to learn and came with all the right questions. Without a doubt, everyone who came will put the Colourlock system to great use within their detailing businesses and effectively be producing excellent leather care results while earning more income due to what was learned.

A Special Thank you to Katherine and family at UM!
